R217A by Didier Mutel reproduces the text of the United Nations Resolution 217A, the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Man on white silk paper printed in white ink. The white pages are interleaved with carbon paper. The intention is that through use, the ink from the carbon paper will be transferred to the fingers of the readers and to the white pages of the book. This is another case where the book is intended to be changed through use – a challenge to the typical archival goal of maintaining items in their original state.
